1-to-1 Meetings

ABIM is not only the key meeting place for the international biocontrol industry but often is the only opportunity for companies to meet all year. Many organisations meet for the first time at ABIM and frequently form lasting business relationships as a result.
We aim to facilitate such encounters through the provision of our 1-to-1 Meeting Service. This is a key feature of the Attendee Hub that can be accessed on smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop. With the service, attendees can contact each other and book physical meetings for up to 4 persons within the venue.

The 1-to-1 feature in the Attendee Hub is a great tool to enhance your networking opportunities. You can book the meeting tables located in the Foyer for short timeslots during all three conference days. You are completely free to send and receive 1-to-1 appointment invitations at any time. Everyone who has chosen to take part in 1-to-1 Meetings during the registration may use this service free of charge.

The Attendee Hub will open 3 months before the conference.

Basel tourist information

Nestling in the heart of Europe in the three countries corner where Switzerland, Germany and France meet, Basel is a pocket-sized metropolis that combines proverbial Swiss quality with a multicultural population. This makes the city unmistakably open-minded, happy and innovative.

Basel is widely acknowledged as Switzerland's city of culture and for good reason, with visitors confronted by art at every turn - whether simply wandering through the streets of the Old Town or visiting one of the city's nearly forty museums.

Basel is a cultural city for lovers of fine wining and dining. The city's unique location on the border of three neighbouring countries has had a profound influence on its cuisine. But it is not only in the area of food where the inhabitants of Basel can enjoy the finer things in life - the city also has a wealth of shopping opportunities on offer! For lovers of fine wining and dining the city has long since lost its status as a hidden gem. The city has more than 20 restaurants with entries in either the Gault Milau or Michelin guides. No less astonishing is the fact that there is so much variety - a fact that is not widely advertised.

The team at the Congress Center Basel (CCB) would like to help speakers make sure that their presentation is a success. Presentations are becoming increasingly sophisticated and demanding, however, and hence a certain amount of technical advice is necessary in order to minimise the potential technical risks. The CCB uses the latest generation of professional equipment for presentations.

Speakers should send their presentation ideally beforehand to the Congress organiser or they can hand it in on a USB stick at least 2 hours before the start of their presentation. The presentation technicians check each presentation for format, correct representation, smooth animations and functioning films. The equipment at the acceptance point is the same as the equipment in the lecture rooms. Once the lectures have been checked, they are transmitted to the corresponding control rooms via the internal network and started on the presentation PC there. At the same time, a copy is kept on the server as a backup.

The CCB uses only the latest-generation Windows PCs with the latest software versions. The computers employed run under the Windows 10 operating system and with PowerPoint 2019.

PowerPoint and PDF formats

Resolution   All devices are running with full-hd resolution (1920 x 1080). You can use all resolutions up to this maximum.
Format          Standard 16:9. Please use your own template.
LenghtThe length of your presentation depends on which session you are speaking in. If you have not yet received this information, please contact conference(at)abim.ch.
Fonts             Use only standard fonts (such as Arial), because your own special fonts are not installed on our computers and cannot therefore be depicted correctly.
Animation   Use animations sparingly.
Audio            Audio – Files must be wave or mp3, your audio – file must be started automatically, not with mouse click.Files must be copied into the presentation folder
Movies

Movies should be made with standard video programmes and the standard codecs. Many film-making tools use their own codecs, which are not available on the CCB's computers. It must be possible for films to be played by Windows Media Player. Flash and links to internet movies like YouTube should not be used. Movies must start automatically, not with a mouse click.

Films should be compiled in WMV or MP4 format and must always be copied into the presentation folder. Films can then be incorporated in PowerPoint without any problems. The entire folder must be copied onto a USB stick or a Harddisk drive and handed it at the Speakers Service Center.

If the presentation doesn't include any animations or films it should be saved as a PDF.

Polls

If you wish to conduct polls during your presentations, here is the procedure for using online polling tools such as Slido, Mentimeter, and similar platforms. These tools allow you to conduct real-time polls, Q&A sessions, and live voting, enabling the audience to actively participate in your presentations.

Step-by-Step Guide to Using Slido:

  • Create an Account: Visit slido.com and create a free account if you do not already have one.
  • Create an Event: After logging in, click on "Create Event" and enter the relevant details for your presentation.
  • Add Polls and Questions: Under the "Polls" tab, you can add various types of polls (Multiple Choice, Word Cloud, etc.). Under "Q&A", you can provide a platform for audience questions.
  • Integrate into Your Presentation: You can integrate Slido into your PowerPoint presentation or use a separate browser tab to display the polls live.
  • Share the Event: Share the event code or QR code with your audience so they can log in and participate.

Step-by-Step Guide to Using Mentimeter:

  • Create an Account: Visit mentimeter.com and sign up for a free account.
  • Create a New Presentation: After logging in, click on "New Presentation" and give your presentation a name.
  • Add Content: Select various slide types (Multiple Choice, Ranking, Word Cloud, etc.) and add them to your presentation.
  • Display the Presentation: Start the presentation and share the access code with your audience so they can participate using their smartphones or laptops.
  • Show Results: Display the results live on the screen or within your presentation to directly utilize audience feedback and opinions.

General Tips:

  • Test the Tools in Advance: Make sure you have tested the tools before your presentation and are familiar with how they work.
  • Communicate Clearly with the Audience: Provide clear instructions on how the audience can participate in the polls and voting.
  • Allocate Time: Plan sufficient time for conducting the polls and discussing the results during your presentation.

We are confident that these tools will enrich your presentations and strengthen interaction with the audience. If you have any questions or encounter technical issues, please do not hesitate to contact us.

MacPresentations compiled on a Mac with Keynote must always be saved in PowerPoint or PDF format. Mac computers are not available at the CCB. No guarantee can be given for presentations with the speakers' own laptops
